Peer Review Information
Manuscripts that meet the submission and formatting requirements of AASTEMER enter our rigorous peer review process. This process is overseen by the Journal’s Editorial Board (led by the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors) and supported by dedicated AASTEMER peer review staff.
The Peer Review Process
The following is a step-by-step outline of our standard peer review workflow:
The Journal’s Editorial Office evaluates each new submission to determine if it aligns with AASTEMER's publication standards and falls within the scope of Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (ILS).
Suitable manuscripts are forwarded to the Editor-in-Chief, who assesses the overall quality and scientific merit. The Editor-in-Chief then assigns the manuscript to a handling Editor responsible for managing the peer review and final decision.
The assigned Editor performs a detailed analysis of the manuscript and invites a pool of potential reviewers who are experts in the field. A minimum of two independent reviewers is required for each manuscript.
Reviewers are given three weeks to complete their reports. Editors and peer review staff actively monitor the process and send reminders to ensure timely submissions.
Based on the reviewers' reports and recommendations, the handling Editor makes one of the following decisions:
The corresponding author receives a formal decision letter via email. If revisions are requested, the author must upload the revised manuscript along with a detailed, point-by-point response to the reviewers' comments within the specified timeframe. Authors may request an extension from the handling Editor before the deadline lapses. If no revision is uploaded and no extension has been requested, the manuscript may be considered "withdrawn" at the Editor's discretion.
Once a revised manuscript is submitted, the Production staff conduct a final compliance check to ensure all formatting and administrative requirements are met before the revision is reassigned to the handling Editor for final evaluation.
Associate Editors are available to handle appeals and address any other editorial issues that may arise throughout the process.
All decisions are made based solely on the scientific merit, originality, and relevance of the work. The peer review process is designed to be fair, objective, and constructive, ensuring the highest quality of publications in Interdisciplinary Life Sciences.
